Jul 31 Burlington Arcade Summer of Sport

I was asked to provide designs for a vision of colourful, energetic illustrated sports for the historic Burlington Arcade in central London. I worked with a design agency to bring these designs to life in an exciting, vibrant way.

The 200 metre carpet, coupled with the large hanging pendants, form an immersive experience which celebrate the many sports that take place in Britain and globally during Summer 2024. Sports that are featured include Wimbledon, Ascot, Formula One, and Henley through to the Paris Olympics.

Technically, this project provided an interesting set of challenges, not least the scale of creating imagery for such a long carpet, and considerations of foot traffic and the need for lots of surface texture and pattern. Additionally the nature of printing onto carpet meant I created the illusion of overlapping screenprinted layers (a favourite technique of mine) whilst actually having to create flat layers.

I love the final look of the work installed in the Arcade, and was so happy for the designs to be printed onto London Taxi livery too.
